Tasty elephant

Sean, Pragues stepchild wrote an interesting essay about a new research result that supports the Expensive Tissue Hypotheses. I have not much to contribute to it except that picture below.

I tried that dish in 2003 when I visited Gabon in equatorial Africa. I can not say that it was something that I would retry anytime soon. The taste was not so bad, but the texture was quite unpleasant, chewy like oversized tripe or squid rings.
Another interesting point, as one can see on the picture, Africans are not yet infected by the fat-phobia we see in the western world. The Niemboué is exactly as it looks like, mainly red palm oil.
While we're at the subject of "meat-eating" in the third-world.
A smoked monkey, a pangolin and a fresh monkey. These kind of stands can be found all along the roads going from Libreville to the other towns of Gabon. That one was 20km from Lambaréné, the famous town where Albert Schweitzer had his hospital. Gary Taubes dedicated a chapter of Good Calories, Bad Calories to him.

Je publierai de temps en temps des petits articles pour illustrer un point ou donner un exemple un peu plus sérieux, sur les différents sujets qui me passionnent. N'ayant pas de don particulier pour l'écriture, je tâcherai de faire court. Comme ma vie est centrée sur une région multi-culturelle et que mes intérêts personnels me lient à un environnement trilingue, j'essayerai toujours de rédiger mes textes en Français, en Allemand et en Anglais. Ainsi, je pourrai faire des liens vers mes articles à partir de tous les sites que je fréquente habituellement. Mon français n'est malheureusement pas à l'abris de fautes d'orthographe et si vous en trouvez n'hésitez pas à me contacter je corrigerai.

Ich werde von Zeit zu Zeit kleine Artikel schreiben um gewisse Punkte hervorzuheben oder um Beispiele hervorzubringen die mich besonders interessieren. Da ich kein sonderlich begabter Schreiber bin, werde ich immer versuchen mich kurz zu fassen. Mein Leben dreht sich in einer multikulturellen Region ab und meine persönlichen Interessen führen zu einem dreisprachigen Dasein. Deshalb werde ich immer versuchen meine Texte in Französisch, in Deutsch und in Englisch zu verfassen. Dadurch können meine Artikel dann in allen Seiten die ich frequentiere verlinkt werden. Mein Deutschunterricht stammt noch von der Zeit vor der Rechtsschreibereform , deshalb wird es mit Sicherheit vorkommen daß ich viele Fehler machen werde. In diesem Fall könnt ihr es mir einfach melden, ich werde es dann korrigieren.

I will from time to time publish small articles to show some point or to give an example of a point of interest. As I'm not really a gifted writer, I will avoid to write too long essays. I live in a multi-cultural region and my interests are multi-lingual. Therefore I will always try to write my entries in french, german and english, allowing to link to them from any of the sites I happen to visit.
